How BlackRock Center Started
The BlackRock Center for the Arts opened its doors in 2002. This happened after a company building the Germantown town center gave land for the center. It has a yearly budget to help it run all its programs. Since 2019, Lynn Arndt has been the Chief Executive Officer, leading the center.
What You'll Find Inside
This amazing building is about 30,000 square feet (2,787 square meters) in size. Inside, you'll discover many cool spaces:
- An art gallery to see awesome artworks.
- A main theater with 210 seats, called a proscenium theater. This means the stage is like a picture frame.
- A dance studio where you can learn and practice dance moves.
- A "black box" studio theater, which is a flexible space often painted black.
- Another display gallery on the second floor.
- Music rooms for lessons and practice.
- Classrooms for visual arts, like painting and drawing.
The center has a team of full-time and part-time staff members. They work hard to make sure everything runs smoothly.
