Blackwolf Run is a famous golf course in Kohler, Wisconsin. It's part of a bigger resort called The American Club, which is owned by the Kohler Company. Another well-known golf course nearby is the Whistling Straits complex.

This amazing golf course opened in 1988 with 18 holes. Right away, it was named the "Best New Public Course" by Golf Digest magazine. Blackwolf Run has won many awards since then. It is often listed among "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses" by Golf Digest. It also appears on the "Top 100 You Can Play" list by Golf Magazine. In 1989, nine more holes were added, making it a full 36-hole facility by 1990. Both the River and Meadow Valleys courses have received a special 5-Star ranking from Golf Digest.

Explore the River Course

The River Course is one of the two 18-hole golf courses at Blackwolf Run. It stretches along a beautiful river basin formed by glaciers long ago. This course is 7,404 yards (6,770 m) long from the longest tees. Golfers aim to finish it in 72 strokes, which is called "par."

  • Designed by a Legend: The course was designed by a very famous golf course architect named Pete Dye.
  • Natural Beauty: It uses some of the original holes that opened in 1988. The course is played on a special type of grass called bent grass.
  • The Sheboygan River: The winding Sheboygan River flows right through the course. This river eventually reaches Lake Michigan in Sheboygan.

Discover the Meadow Valleys Course

The Meadow Valleys Course is the other 18-hole golf course at Blackwolf Run. It is 7,250 yards (6,629 m) long and also has a par of 72.

  • Another Pete Dye Masterpiece: Like the River Course, this one was also designed by Pete Dye.

The U.S. Women's Open at Blackwolf Run

Blackwolf Run has hosted the U.S. Women's Open golf tournament twice. This is a very important event in women's professional golf.

  • 1998 Tournament: The first time was in 1998. A special "Original Championship Course" was created for the event. It used holes from both the Meadow Valleys and River courses. Se Ri Pak won this tournament after a thrilling playoff.
  • 2012 Tournament: The same special course layout was used again for the 2012 U.S. Women's Open. For this tournament, the course was made even longer. It was extended by over 500 yards (460 m). The total length for 2012 was 6,954 yards (6,359 m). The course is about 650 feet (200 m) above sea level.
