The Rivière Blanche (La Tuque) is a river in Quebec, Canada. Its name means "White River" in English. This river flows towards the east. It helps drain the land between the towns of Casey and Wemotaci. Both of these places are in La Tuque, which is part of the Mauricie region of Quebec.

The Rivière Blanche is a very important river. It is the main river that flows into the Manouane River (La Tuque). The Manouane River then flows into the larger Saint-Maurice River. This means the Rivière Blanche is part of a big system of rivers and lakes.

Where Does the White River Flow?

The White River gets its water from many lakes. These lakes are mostly found along the railway line that connects Senneterre and La Tuque. Some lakes are also north of this railway. The river flows completely through thick forests.

If you were to follow the river, you would find a forest road nearby. This road connects Parent and Wemotaci. It generally follows the White River's path. First, it stays on the south side of the river. Then, it crosses over to the north side near Casey.

The River's Journey

Many of the lakes that feed the White River are located north of Casey. They are about 16 to 28 kilometers away. The biggest of these lakes is called Weectigo Lake. From there, the river flows south. It picks up water from Lake Guenette along the way.

After that, the river turns to the east. It collects water from lakes like Letondal and Capimit. It then passes north of Casey. Lake Letondal also gets water from the northwest part of the Ruban River. The White River then turns north. Here, it receives water from Bérard and Ellwood lakes.

From this point, the river makes a big curve. It forms a shape like the number 5 lying on its side. This curve leads it all the way to where it joins another river.

The River's End

Near the outlet of Island Lake, the White River turns south. This point is about 22.5 kilometers in a straight line from where it ends. If you follow the river's bends, it's about 36.5 kilometers. In this area, the river flows south for about 26 kilometers.

Then, it goes through a winding part that is about 2.5 kilometers long. This winding section ends about 16 kilometers from its mouth. After this, the river flows southeast. It finally reaches its mouth, which is where it joins the Manouane River (La Tuque). The White River's mouth is just 1.6 kilometers upstream from the Manouane River's own mouth.

What's in a Name?

The name "Rivière Blanche" (La Tuque) was officially recognized a long time ago. It was registered on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This group is in charge of all the place names in Quebec. They make sure names are official and recorded correctly.
