The Manouane River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows from west to east through a region called Haute-Mauricie, which is northwest of La Tuque. This area is part of the Lanaudière and Mauricie regions. Most of the land around the river is covered by thick forests.

Where the Manouane River Flows

The Manouane River is one of the five main rivers that flow into the Saint-Maurice River. A river that flows into a larger river is called a tributary. The Manouane River joins the Saint-Maurice River across from the village of Wemotaci. This village is about 115 kilometers (71 miles) north of La Tuque.

The place where the Manouane River meets the Saint-Maurice River is special. It is located between two large dams. One is the Chute Allard dam, and the other is the dam for the Gouin Reservoir. The Gouin Reservoir is a very large lake at the beginning of the Saint-Maurice River.

Lakes and Other Waterways

The Manouane River gets its water from several large lakes. These include Châteauvert Lake, Manouane Lake, and Kempt Lake. These lakes help to feed the river as it flows.

The White River (La Tuque) is the most important river that flows into the Manouane River. It flows from the northeast and then turns south. It joins the Manouane River very close to its mouth, about 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) away. The area that the White River drains is north of the Manouane River's own basin.

The Name Manouane

The name "Manouane" comes from the Native American languages spoken in this region. The official name "Manouane" for this river was recorded on December 5, 1968. This was done by the Commission de toponymie du Québec, which is like a special board that names places in Quebec.
