The Lake Châteauvert is a large body of water in Quebec, Canada. It is located in the territory of La Tuque, within the Mauricie region. This lake is actually a reservoir, meaning its water level is controlled by a dam. The Manouane River (La Tuque) flows through it, both entering and leaving the lake.
About Lake Châteauvert
The name "Lake Châteauvert" was officially recorded on December 5, 1968. This happened at the Bank of Place Names of the Commission de toponymie du Québec. This board is responsible for naming and recording geographical places in Quebec.
Where is Lake Châteauvert located?
Lake Châteauvert is completely surrounded by a thick forest. It stretches out long and narrow, running from north to south.
The lake gets its water from several places:
- From the west, water flows in from Lake Manouane. This lake also gets water from Kempt Lake.
- From the center-west, the Kekeo River flows into the lake.
- From the south, the Mondonac River brings water. This river is fed by Lake Sincennes and Lake Mondonac.
The Manouane-C Dam
The water from Lake Châteauvert flows out through the Manouane River (La Tuque) at its northern end. Here, you'll find a large dam called "Manouane-C." This dam is owned by Hydro-Québec, a company that produces electricity.
The Manouane-C dam was built in 1952. It is made of concrete and stands 14 meters (about 46 feet) tall. It can hold water up to 12.5 meters (about 41 feet) high. The area that collects water for this dam is 456 square kilometers (about 176 square miles). The dam can hold a huge amount of water: 269,820,000 cubic meters.
A forest road comes from Wemotaci. This road crosses the Manouane River right at the top of the Manouane-C dam. Then, it continues west along the northern shore of Lake Châteauvert.
