The Blanche River is a cool waterway in Quebec, Canada. Its name means 'White River' in French. This river is like a smaller stream that flows into a bigger one, the Bécancour River. The Bécancour River then joins the mighty St. Lawrence River.
The Blanche River flows through the town of Thetford Mines. This area is part of the Les Appalaches Regional County Municipality (MRC). It is also in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec.
Where Does the Blanche River Flow?
The Blanche River starts from small streams high up in the mountains. These streams are on the east side of Mont Saint-Adrien. This is not far from the center of Thetford Mines.
The river travels about 8.2 km (5.1 mi) (which is about 5 miles). It mostly flows through forests. Here is how its journey goes:
- It flows south for about 2.0 km (1.2 mi).
- Then, it continues south for another 3.7 km (2.3 mi). During this part, it crosses Route 122 southwest of Thetford Mines.
- Finally, it flows south for 2.5 km (1.6 mi) until it reaches its end.
The Blanche River ends its journey by emptying into the north side of the Bécancour River. This meeting point is near a large open pit mine, northeast of Black Lake.
What Rivers Are Nearby?
The Blanche River is surrounded by other rivers and streams. These are like its neighbors in the water world. Some of the main ones are:
- To the north: Old Mill Creek, Osgood River, and Sunday River.
- To the east: The main Bécancour River, rivière de l'Or, and Prévost-Gilbert River.
- To the south: The Bécancour River again, and the Coleraine River.
- To the west: The Bécancour River and the Bagot River.
