Blas de Prado was a talented Spanish painter who lived in the 1500s. He was born around 1540 near Toledo, a historic city in Spain. Blas de Prado was a student of a very famous artist named Alonso Berruguete.

Blas de Prado was known for his beautiful paintings. He created many artworks during his life. He is sometimes called "Del Prado."

Early Life and Training

Blas de Prado learned to paint from Alonso Berruguete. Berruguete was a well-known sculptor and painter. Learning from such a master helped Blas de Prado develop his own unique style.

His Artworks

You can still see some of Blas de Prado's paintings today.

  • In Toledo: Some of his works are in the chapel of St. Blas in Toledo. However, these paintings have been damaged over time by age and dampness.
  • In Madrid: There are also paintings by Blas de Prado in Madrid, the capital city of Spain. One important painting is an altar-piece in the church of San Pedro. This painting shows the 'Descent from the Cross,' which means it depicts Jesus being taken down from the cross. Experts say this painting clearly shows he was a great artist.

Travels to Morocco

Early in his career, Blas de Prado was invited to travel to the court of the Emperor of Morocco. The Emperor wanted him to paint a portrait of his daughter. Blas de Prado traveled to Fez, a city in Morocco, for this special job. While he was there, he also painted portraits of other princesses in the royal family. He was well-rewarded for his work before returning to Spain.

Later Life

Blas de Prado passed away in Madrid around the year 1600. His paintings continue to be admired today.
