The story of the Blazer horse starts with a chestnut-colored stallion named Little Blaze. He was born in 1959. Little Blaze was bred and owned by F. Neil Hinck. Hinck was a horse trainer from Bedford, Wyoming. His family had a long history with horses. They were descendants of Mormon pioneers and Danish horsemen. This meant Hinck knew a lot about many different horse breeds.
Mixing Breeds to Create Blazers
Hinck created the Blazer horse by mixing several well-known breeds. He combined the American Quarter Horse and the Morgan horse. He also added blood from the Shetland pony and the Thoroughbred. This special mix helped create a horse that was strong, gentle, and smart.
The Blazer Horse Association
The Blazer Horse Association was officially started in 1967. It was located in Star, Idaho. In 2006, its name changed to the American Blazer Horse Association. It became a nonprofit group. This group works to protect the breed and keep its history alive. The main office moved to Nampa, Idaho in the same year.
Registering a Blazer Horse
To be an official Blazer horse, a horse must be registered. It needs to pass a check by a veterinarian. Also, at least one of its parents must be directly related to the original stallion, Little Blaze. This helps make sure all registered Blazers are truly part of the breed.
