Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Bleda is a small place in Scott County, located in the U.S. state of Missouri. It's called an "unincorporated community," which means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.

The Story of Bleda

Bleda has an interesting past! It wasn't always called Bleda. When it was first started in 1873, people knew it as "Caney Creek."

Later, in 1892, a post office was opened there. A post office is a place where you can send and receive mail, which was very important for communities back then. This post office was named Bleda, and it helped connect the people living there to the rest of the world until it closed in 1916.

The name "Bleda" actually comes from a city far away! It was inspired by the city of Blida in Algeria, a country in North Africa.
