Meet Blondy's Dude: A Champion Horse
Early Life and Family
Blondy's Dude was born in 1957. He was a sorrel (a reddish-brown color) stallion, which means he was a male horse. His dad was named Small Town Dude, and his mom was Blondy Queen. His grandpa was a very famous horse named King P-234.
A Star in Horse Shows
Blondy's Dude was an amazing horse in competitions. He earned titles like AQHA Champion and a Performance Register of Merit. These awards show how well he performed in different events.
In 1961, a person named Morgan Freeman bought Blondy's Dude. Morgan had seen him compete in Reining (a sport where horses do fancy spins and stops) and also in Cutting (where a horse separates a cow from a herd).
Blondy's Dude earned many points in these shows. He got 45 points in Halter (where horses are judged on their looks). He also earned points in cutting and reining. Morgan's son, Jerald, said that Blondy's Dude was a very friendly horse who loved being around people.
A Legacy of Champions
Blondy's Dude became a very important father (or "sire") to many champion horses. Some of his famous children included Mighty Blonde, Small Town Babe, and Dude's Ann. His grandchildren also became champions, like a horse named Diamonds Sparkle.
His children won many awards, including twenty-five AQHA Championships. They also earned Superior Performance awards in many different horse sports. These sports included Western Pleasure (a smooth riding style), Reining, Barrel Racing, Hunter Under Saddle (a jumping style), Trail, Roping, and Pole Bending. This shows how talented his family was in many areas!
Hall of Fame Honor
Blondy's Dude was honored for his amazing life and contributions to the Quarter Horse world. In 2001, he was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame. This is a very special award for horses who have made a big impact.
Blondy's Dude passed away in 1981. He was buried at Morgan Freeman's home in Skiatook, Oklahoma. His grave has a special marker that says, "God gives his best to those that leave the choice to him. Owned and Loved by Morgan Freeman."
