Who Was Diamonds Sparkle?
Diamonds Sparkle was a beautiful palomino mare. A palomino horse has a golden coat and a white or flaxen mane and tail. She was born in 1974 in Bixby, Oklahoma. Her breeders were M. J. Sprouse and Jerald Freeman.
She was officially registered with the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA). Her registration number was 1,004,317. Her family tree included some very famous horses! Her dad was a son of Blondy's Dude. Her mom's side of the family included horses like Three Bars (TB) and Clabber.
What Did Diamonds Sparkle Achieve?
Diamonds Sparkle was a true superstar in horse shows! In 1979, she won the amazing AQHA World Show Superhorse title. This means she was the best all-around horse at the show that year.
She also became the 1979 AQHA World Champion Senior Heading Horse. This is a big deal in the world of horse competitions!
Diamonds Sparkle earned many points in different events:
- 23 points in Halter (judging a horse's looks)
- 39 points in Heeling
- 22 points in Heading
- 31 points in Western pleasure (judging a horse's smooth gaits)

Diamonds Sparkle's Famous Offspring
After her show career, Diamonds Sparkle became a very important broodmare. This means she had many foals (baby horses) who also became champions. She passed on her amazing talents to her children!

- Sparkles Rosezana: Won the 1985 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Futurity.
- Zans Diamond Sun: Became the 1987 AQHA World Champion in Junior Reining.
- Sparkles Suzana: Won the 1989 NRHA Derby Championship.
- Genuine Redskin: Won the 1990 NRHA Derby Championship.
- Shining Spark: Won the 1994 NRHA Derby Championship. He became a super famous sire himself! By 2005, his foals had earned over $2 million in NRHA competitions.
- Spark O Lena: Was the 1996 AQHA Reserve World Show Superhorse.
Many of her famous foals, like Sparkles Rosezana, Zans Diamond Sun, and Sparkles Suzana, were sired by another Hall of Fame horse named Zan Parr Bar. Diamonds Sparkle passed away in November 2002, at 28 years old.
Honors and Legacy
Diamonds Sparkle's incredible achievements and her champion offspring earned her a special place in history.
In 1996, she was inducted into the National Reining Horse Association Hall of Fame. This honor recognizes horses that have made a huge impact on the sport of reining.
Then, in 2007, she was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame. This is one of the highest honors a Quarter Horse can receive! It celebrates horses that have significantly contributed to the Quarter Horse breed. Diamonds Sparkle truly left a sparkling legacy in the horse world!
