Zan Parr Bar's Early Life
Zan Parr Bar was a beautiful chestnut-colored stallion. His father was Par Three, and his grandfather was the famous Thoroughbred stallion, Three Bars. Three Bars is also in the AQHA Hall of Fame! Zan Parr Bar's mother was Terry's Pal.
He was born on April 30, 1974, in Tulare, California. Bobbie Silva was his breeder. When he was just four months old, a professor named Bill Gibford bought him. Bill Gibford taught at California Polytechnic State University. He named the horse Zan Parr Bar. The "Zan" part came from an old ancestor named Zantanon. The "Parr" and "Bar" parts honored his father, Par Three, and his grandfather, Three Bars. When he was fully grown, Zan Parr Bar stood about 15.3 hands tall. This is about 5 feet, 3 inches at his shoulder. He weighed around 1250 pounds.
Zan Parr Bar's Show Career
Bill Gibford started showing Zan Parr Bar when the horse was two years old. He competed in 'halter' classes. In these shows, horses are judged on their body shape and how well they look. Zan Parr Bar won a few Grand Champion titles. He also earned some Reserve Grand Championships.
A New Owner
One day, at a show in California, a Texas horse breeder named Carol Rose saw Zan Parr Bar. She was very impressed and wanted to buy him. Bill Gibford had been her teacher at Cal Poly. He didn't want to sell the horse at first. But he promised Carol that she would be the first person he would call if he ever decided to sell.
About a month later, Bill called Carol. He told her he was thinking about selling Zan Parr Bar. Carol didn't waste any time! She flew to California right away to make the deal. As Carol said, "I was on a plane at eight the next morning, there by three, and by 5:30, the deal was done." She bought him just in time, as someone else showed up with an offer soon after!
Competing in Texas
After Carol Rose bought him, Zan Parr Bar moved to Texas. Carol's husband at the time, Matlock Rose, continued to show the stallion in halter classes. Zan Parr Bar also started competing in western pleasure events. In western pleasure, horses are judged on their smooth, easy gaits. By the end of 1977, he had earned enough points to get a Performance Register of Merit from the AQHA. This award shows a horse has done very well in performance events.
In 1978, Zan Parr Bar started showing in steer roping. This is a rodeo event where a rider ropes a steer. He quickly became a Superior Steer Roping horse. He also earned the AQHA Champion title by the end of 1978. This title is given to horses who have achieved high points in both halter and performance events.
Major Awards and Titles
During his amazing show career, Zan Parr Bar earned many awards. He was an AQHA Champion. He also received the Performance Register of Merit. He was a Superior Halter Horse and a Superior Steer Roping Horse.

He was also the High Point Steer Roping Horse that year. In 1980, he won the World Champion Aged Halter stallion title again!
Zan Parr Bar's Breeding Career
After 1980, Zan Parr Bar stopped competing in shows. He became a full-time breeding stallion. This means he spent his time fathering new horses. As a sire, he produced many World Champion horses. Some of his famous children include Reprise Bar, Zan Parr Jack, and Zan Gold Jack.
He also had special foals when he was bred with another Hall of Fame horse, Diamonds Sparkle. Together, they produced Sparkles Rosezana, Zans Diamond Sun, and Sparkles Suzana. In total, Zan Parr Bar fathered 652 foals over 12 years. His children earned 22 AQHA Champion titles. They also won 31 World Champion titles. Many of his foals earned Superior Halter titles and Superior Performance titles in different horse sports.
