Bloom is what we call a ghost town in Otero County, Colorado, United States. A ghost town is a place where people used to live and work, but now it's mostly empty. A ghost town is a town that has been abandoned. This means most, if not all, of its people have moved away. Often, the buildings are left standing, but they are empty and sometimes falling apart. These towns can be really interesting to visit because they tell a story about the past.
The History of Bloom
Bloom was once a small community in Colorado. It was named after a cattleman named Frank G. Bloom. A cattleman is someone who raises cattle, which are cows and bulls.
The town had its own post office, which is where people would send and receive letters and packages. The Bloom post office opened on April 18, 1899. It stayed open for many years, helping the people who lived there connect with the outside world.
However, like many small towns, Bloom eventually started to lose its residents. The post office, which was a key part of the community, closed down on May 31, 1938. When the post office closed, it often meant that the town was no longer active. This is how Bloom became the ghost town we know today.
