Discovering the Bloom Festival
The very first Bloom garden festival happened in June 2007. The President of Ireland at the time, Mary McAleese, officially opened it.
How the Festival Grew
Over the years, the Bloom Festival has become super popular! In 2010, about 8,000 people visited on the first day. The festival featured 24 different gardens spread across a large area of Phoenix Park. One of these gardens was designed by the winner of Super Garden, a TV show from RTÉ.
The festival has grown a lot since it started. In 2010, about 60,000 people came to visit. By 2019, nearly 120,000 people were attending! This huge number of visitors sometimes caused long lines and a lot of traffic in the area. Because of this, the people who organize the event have encouraged visitors to use public transport like buses or trains to get there.
More Than Just Gardens
In the past, the Bloom Festival has shown off beautiful gardens created by professional gardeners. It also has a special market where you can find amazing artisan food. Plus, famous chefs often give cooking demonstrations!
Since the festival began, it has focused more and more on food. This means that while gardens are still a big part, the food section has become very important too.
