Bloomeria is a group of flowering plants. They are known as geophytes, which means they grow from underground bulbs, like onions or tulips. These plants belong to the Asparagaceae family, which also includes asparagus!

The name Bloomeria comes from Hiram Green Bloomer (1819–1874). He was an important botanist (a scientist who studies plants) from San Francisco.
