Blue Barnacle is an exciting pirate ship ride at Chessington World of Adventures in southwest London, England. It opened in Spring 2021 and replaced an older ride called Black Buccaneer. You can find this fun attraction in the Pirates Cove area of the park. It's a thrilling ride that swings you high into the air!

The Story of Blue Barnacle

The old ride, Black Buccaneer, closed down at the end of 2018. It was then quietly removed from the park. In January 2020, Chessington asked people online to help name the new ride. Blue Barnacle was chosen as the winning name. The new ride was supposed to open in 2020. However, due to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, its opening was delayed by a year.

Blue Barnacle is a type of amusement ride that looks like an open pirate ship. It has seats for riders and swings back and forth. As it swings, you feel different forces, making it a really fun experience!

The ride was built by a German company called 'Metallbau Emmeln'. It has a cool design with blue, red, and white colors. The ride stands 11 meters (about 36 feet) tall. It can carry 42 riders in each go. This means about 650 people can ride it every hour.

Rider Rules

To ride Blue Barnacle, you need to be at least 1.1 meters (about 3 feet 7 inches) tall.

  • If you are between 1.1 meters and 1.3 meters (about 4 feet 3 inches) tall, an adult over 16 must ride with you.
  • If you are 1.3 meters or taller, you can ride by yourself.
