The Blue Moon Diner, once called the Miss Toy Town Diner, is a special old diner in Gardner, Massachusetts. It was built in 1949. This diner is a great example of a "barrel-roofed" diner. It was made by the famous Worcester Lunch Car Company. The diner has been in its current spot since 1954. Because it's so old and well-kept, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. This means it's an important part of history!

What Makes the Blue Moon Diner Special?

The Blue Moon Diner is on the east side of Main Street in Gardner. It sits on a strong concrete base. The diner faces the road, and there's a parking area next to it. A wooden part was added to the back. This extra space holds the kitchen and more tables.

Inside and Out

The diner building itself is quite long and wide. It has a unique rounded roof, like a barrel, which is now covered with shingles. The main door is at the front, facing the street. It has a small roof over it to keep you dry. Another door at the back leads to the newer addition.

The outside of the diner is covered in shiny porcelain panels. These panels have colorful designs built right into them. The doors are made of shiny stainless steel. Inside, you'll find a cool marble counter with fourteen stools. There are also cozy booths along one wall. These booths have wooden seats and tables with smooth, laminated tops. The tiles inside are mostly blue and cream, with touches of black and white.

A Journey Through Time

The Worcester Lunch Car Company built this diner in 1949. It first opened in Winchendon and was known as the Miss Toy Town Diner. Imagine, it was once called "Miss Toy Town"!

Moving to Gardner

In 1954, the diner was carefully moved to Gardner. It has had different owners over the years. In 1984, it got a special makeover to make it look new again while keeping its old charm. Today, it's the only diner in Gardner.

A Star on the Screen

Did you know the Blue Moon Diner was in a movie? It was used as a scene in the film School Ties. A famous actor, Brendan Fraser, was in that movie! For the film, the diner's name was changed to "Skip's Diner."
