Blue box facts for kids
A blue box was a special device that people used to make free telephone calls. It worked by playing sounds that were exactly like the secret tones telephone companies used to control their equipment. This allowed people to trick the phone system into thinking they were a phone company employee.
Famous Blue Box Users
One of the most well-known people who used a blue box was John Draper, also known as Captain Crunch. He was famous for his skills with these devices.
Draper even taught Steve Wozniak how to build blue boxes. Later, Wozniak and Steve Jobs, who would go on to create Apple, sold these blue boxes to other students at the University of California, Berkeley. There's a fun story about Wozniak using a blue box to call the Pope!
