Bluefish are a type of fish found in many parts of the world. They live in the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, the Black Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean. These fish are known as pelagic fish. This means they live near the surface of the ocean, not close to the bottom.
Bluefish can grow quite large. They can be up to 150 centimetres (59 in) (about 5 feet) long. They can also weigh up to 15 kilograms (33 lb) (about 33 pounds). In the wild, bluefish usually live for about nine years.
What Do Bluefish Eat?
Bluefish are predators. This means they hunt and eat other fish. They often hunt in small groups. This helps them catch their prey more easily. Bluefish are known for being very aggressive hunters.
Bluefish and People
People catch bluefish for food. They are caught by commercial fishermen. Sometimes, too many bluefish are caught. This is called overfishing. Overfishing can harm the number of fish in the ocean. Scientists and fishermen work together to manage bluefish populations. This helps make sure there are enough fish for the future.
