Bluff City is a small, quiet place in Fayette County, Illinois, United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it's a settlement that doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of the larger county. You can find Bluff City about two miles east of Vandalia along the historic U.S. Route 40.

A Look at Bluff City's Past
Early Settlements and History
Long, long ago, the area where Bluff City is now was home to one of the biggest Native American settlements. This was before Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas. These early people lived and thrived here for many years.
Local Businesses and Legends
In 1949, a company called Bluff Equipment Inc. started in Bluff City. This business sells farm equipment and other vehicles, and it's still there today!
There's also an interesting rumor about Bluff City. People say that after the Great Chicago Fire in 1871, some of the debris (or leftover pieces) from the fire were brought and dumped near Bluff City. Imagine how much stuff that must have been!
Music and Entertainment
For many years, Bluff City was also known for the Okaw Valley Opry. An "Opry" is a type of show, often featuring country music and other performances. Bill and Evelyn Oliver ran this popular music spot, bringing entertainment to the community.
