Bob Daisley's Music Career
Starting in Music
Bob Daisley started playing guitar when he was 13. A year later, he switched to playing the bass guitar. He formed a band called Kahvas Jute. They released their first album, Wide Open, in 1971.
In 1972, Bob joined the English blues band Chicken Shack. After that, he played with Mungo Jerry in 1973. He also played on their 1974 album, Long-Legged Woman Dressed in Black. Later, he helped start the band Widowmaker. He played on their first two albums. In 1977, he joined Ritchie Blackmore's band Rainbow. He played on their album Long Live Rock 'n' Roll. He stayed with Rainbow until 1979.
Playing with Ozzy Osbourne
In 1979, Bob Daisley met Ozzy Osbourne. Ozzy had just left the band Black Sabbath. Bob and Ozzy decided to start a new band together. They soon found guitarist Randy Rhoads. They also added drummer Lee Kerslake. The band was first called The Blizzard of Ozz. Later, they decided to simply call it "Ozzy Osbourne."
Bob played bass and helped write songs for their first album, Blizzard of Ozz. He also helped write all the songs for their next album, Diary of a Madman. However, Bob and drummer Lee Kerslake left the band before the second album came out.
Later, there were disagreements about who should get credit for playing on Diary of a Madman. New versions of the albums were released with different bass and drum parts. But in 2011, the original recordings with Bob and Lee's playing were put back on the albums.
Bob continued to work with Ozzy Osbourne on and off for many years. He played bass or helped write songs for albums like Bark at the Moon (1983) and No More Tears (1991).
Other Famous Bands
After his first time with Ozzy Osbourne, Bob joined Uriah Heep in 1981. He recorded two albums with them: Abominog and Head First. These albums helped the band become popular again.
Bob also played on many albums and toured with guitarist Gary Moore. He worked with Gary Moore for a long time, until Gary passed away in 2011.
In 1986, Bob played on the Black Sabbath album The Eternal Idol. He was asked to join Black Sabbath full-time. However, he decided to keep working with Gary Moore instead.
More Music Projects
Since the 1980s, Bob Daisley has played bass, written lyrics, and produced music for many artists. These include Yngwie Malmsteen and Bill Ward. He also formed a band called Mother's Army.
In 2003, Bob teamed up with Lee Kerslake again. They formed a band called Living Loud with Steve Morse and Jimmy Barnes. They recorded an album that included some songs from the early Ozzy Osbourne albums. In 2014, Bob helped produce an album for a band called Cherry Grind.
His Book
Bob Daisley's book about his life, For Facts Sake, was released in August 2013.
Bob's Musical Gear
Bob Daisley uses Mark Bass amplifiers and Picato Strings. He has used these strings since 1972. For Ozzy Osbourne's first solo album, Blizzard of Ozz, he used a white Gibson EB-3 bass guitar. He still uses a red 1960 EB-3 today. For other albums, like Diary of a Madman and No More Tears, he used a Fender Precision Bass.
