Early Life
Bob Kunst was born in 1941 in Miami Beach, Florida. In the 1970s, he worked in marketing for the Miami Toros, a professional soccer team.
Standing Up for Rights
Bob Kunst supported a rule in 1976 in Miami-Dade County that aimed to protect people from unfair treatment. Later, he became involved in helping people with AIDS.
Kunst spoke out against a group called "Save Our Children." This group was supported by singer Anita Bryant and her husband. They wanted to remove the anti-discrimination rule that Kunst had supported. Bob Kunst helped organize efforts to put pressure on companies that sponsored Anita Bryant. The rule was eventually changed by the state Supreme Court of Florida in 2010.
In 1991, Bob Kunst was no longer the leader of an organization called Cure AIDS Now.
Running for Office
Bob Kunst has run for political office several times but has not won. He tried to become Florida Governor in 1982 and 2002. He also ran for United States Senator in 1986. In 2010, he ran for Congress as an independent candidate.
Other Activism
From 1991 to 2001, Bob Kunst was the president of Shalom International. This was a Jewish group that worked to fight against groups that promote hate around the world.
In 1982, he also helped start a group called the Oral Majority. This group was a liberal and non-religious counter-protest group. It stood against the ideas of religious organizations like the Moral Majority and the Christian Coalition of America.
In 2018, Kunst protested outside a courthouse. He was there during the trial of Noor Salman, who was the wife of the person responsible for the Pulse nightclub tragedy.
Supporting Donald Trump
Bob Kunst supported Donald Trump when he ran for U.S. president in 2016, 2020, and 2024. By 2019, he said he had attended 150 of Trump's rallies. He also protested in March 2023 when Donald Trump faced legal charges in New York.
