Robert Michael Mischak (October 25, 1932 – June 26, 2014) was a talented American football player and coach. He played as a guard and tight end. Bob was known for his strong play in the American Football League (AFL). He also played in the National Football League (NFL). Later, he became a very successful coach. He helped the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders win three Super Bowls.

Playing Career

Bob Mischak was born in Newark, New Jersey. He played college football at Army. He was a strong player who always gave his best.

An Amazing College Play

In October 1953, Bob played in a famous game. It was against Duke at the Polo Grounds in New York City. Late in the game, a Duke player was running for a touchdown. Bob was 73 yards behind him. He chased the player down the field. Bob caught him just before the goal line. He made a touchdown-saving tackle. This incredible play helped Army win the game 14–13. His coach, Red Blaik, said he had never seen such heart and pursuit.

Professional Football

After college, Bob played professional football. He joined the New York Giants in the NFL in 1958. He was a starting guard in a very famous game. This game is often called "The Greatest Game Ever Played."

From 1960 to 1965, Bob played in the American Football League (AFL). He played for the New York Titans and the Oakland Raiders. His fellow players recognized his skill. He was named an AFL All-League guard in 1960 and 1961. He was also an AFL All-Star in 1961 and 1962.

Hall of Fame Recognition

In 2017, Bob Mischak was honored. He was added to the Army/West Point Sports Hall of Fame. He was also named one of the top ten NFL players from service academies. This shows how important he was to football.

Coaching Career

After his playing days, Bob Mischak became a coach. He coached for the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders. He coached the tight ends from 1973 to 1987, and again in 1994.

Super Bowl Success

As a coach, Bob helped the Raiders win big. He was part of the coaching staff for three Super Bowl victories. These wins were in Super Bowl XI, Super Bowl XV, and Super Bowl XVIII. This made him a three-time Super Bowl champion coach.

Bob Mischak passed away on June 26, 2014, at the age of 81. He is remembered as a great player and a successful coach.
