Robert Wilson's Football Career
Starting in Scotland
Robert Wilson was born in a town called Musselburgh in Scotland. He began his football career with a local junior club named Musselburgh Athletic. In November 1954, he joined Aberdeen, a professional team. He quickly earned a spot in Aberdeen's main team during the 1955–56 season. That year, he helped his team win the Scottish League Cup by defeating St Mirren.
Playing for English Clubs
In May 1957, Robert left Scotland to play for Norwich City in England. This club was part of the Football League Third Division South. He played regularly in his first season with Norwich. However, he later lost his starting position. In 1960, he decided to move to Gillingham, a team in the Fourth Division. He played 35 matches for Gillingham in the Football League.
After the 1960–61 season, Robert chose to move again. Several Scottish clubs wanted to sign him. But he decided to stay in England. He joined Accrington Stanley, which was also in the Fourth Division. He became the captain of the team. Sadly, in March 1962, Accrington Stanley had to leave the Football League. This was due to financial problems. Robert Wilson was the last player to captain the club in a professional match before this happened.
After leaving Accrington Stanley, Wilson joined another Fourth Division club, Chester. He played 15 games for them. Later, he left professional football. He then played in non-league football for a team called GKN Sankey in Shropshire.
