Bobby was a last-minute addition to the Country team, playing on the wing. He was up against Bob Lulham, a top Sydney winger. Bobby's tackling was so good that Lulham couldn't score any points. After the game, Lulham even congratulated Bobby on his excellent play.
Representing New South Wales and Australia
In that same year, 1948, Bobby played for New South Wales twice against Queensland. He also played in matches for the Combined Country team against the Kiwis (New Zealand) and the Combined Sydney team.
After these great performances, Bobby was chosen to join the Kangaroos. This team toured England and France. He was the youngest player ever to be given this special honor.

Bobby played for Wests in 1951. However, he had to take two seasons off from the game due to injuries. During his time playing, Bobby was known for being a strong runner with the ball. But his best skill was his tough defense. He was a very determined defender. He retired from playing in Sydney in 1953.
