Bobby Dimond's Rugby Career

Robert "Bobby" Dimond was born in Dapto, New South Wales. He was the older brother of fellow rugby league player Peter Dimond. Bobby started his top-level rugby career very young. He made his first-grade debut when he was just sixteen years old.

Early Fame and Big Games

In 1948, when Bobby was 18, he was playing for the Dapto First Grade team. He quickly became well-known because of his amazing performances. One of his most notable games was in 1948. This was a match between the Combined Country team and the Sydney team. It took place at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Bobby was a last-minute addition to the Country team, playing on the wing. He was up against Bob Lulham, a top Sydney winger. Bobby's tackling was so good that Lulham couldn't score any points. After the game, Lulham even congratulated Bobby on his excellent play.

Representing New South Wales and Australia

In that same year, 1948, Bobby played for New South Wales twice against Queensland. He also played in matches for the Combined Country team against the Kiwis (New Zealand) and the Combined Sydney team.

After these great performances, Bobby was chosen to join the Kangaroos. This team toured England and France. He was the youngest player ever to be given this special honor.

Playing for Western Suburbs

After returning from the tour in 1949, Bobby continued to play for the Combined Country team. He played against Combined Sydney and Queensland. In 1950, he joined the Western Suburbs team in Sydney. He also represented New South Wales against Great Britain.

Bobby played for Wests in 1951. However, he had to take two seasons off from the game due to injuries. During his time playing, Bobby was known for being a strong runner with the ball. But his best skill was his tough defense. He was a very determined defender. He retired from playing in Sydney in 1953.
