Bodil Ipsen's Early Life and Career
Bodil Louise Jensen Ipsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on August 30, 1889. After finishing high school in 1908, she began studying acting. She joined the Royal Danish Theatre and performed on stage for the first time a year later.
Her acting quickly caught people's attention. Her performances with Danish actor Poul Reumert were especially praised. Throughout her career, Bodil Ipsen acted at many theaters. These included the Royal Danish Theatre, the Dagmar Theater, and the Betty Nansen Theater. She also performed in Sweden and Norway.

Working with Lau Lauritzen Jr.
After Afsporet, Bodil Ipsen worked with Lau Lauritzen Jr. on four more films. Their second movie together was De røde enge (The Red Meadows). This film was about the Nazi occupation of Denmark during World War II. It won the Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1946.
In 1950, Ipsen and Lauritzen received more praise for their film Café Paradis (Paradise Cafe). Many consider it a masterpiece of Danish cinema. For this film, Bodil Ipsen won the Bodil Award. This award is named after her and fellow actress, Bodil Kjer. Two years later, Ipsen and Lauritzen won the Bodil Award for Best Danish Film again. Bodil Ipsen's Personal Life
Bodil Ipsen had a very busy career on stage and in films. She was married several times during her life. Her first marriage was in 1910 to actor Jacob Texière, but it ended that same year. In 1914, she married H.H.O. Moltke, an engineer, and they divorced after three years. Her marriage to film director Emanuel Gregers in 1919 lasted four years.
Bodil Ipsen married for the fourth time in 1932 to a journalist named Ejnar Black. They stayed together for 17 years until Black passed away in 1949. After his death, Bodil Ipsen spent more time alone outside of work. She preferred the company of her assistant and housekeeper, Stella Jensen.
