The Boeuf River is a long river in the southern United States. It flows through the states of Arkansas and Louisiana. This river is a branch, or tributary, of the Ouachita River.

What's in a Name?

The name of the Boeuf River comes from the French word bœuf. This word means "ox". So, you could say it's the "Ox River"!

Where the River Flows

The Boeuf River starts near a place called Lake Village in Arkansas. From there, it travels for about 216 mi (348 km). That's a pretty long journey for a river!

Its Journey South

As it flows, the river moves towards the south. It passes through different areas of Arkansas and then enters Louisiana. The river's path helps shape the land around it.

Meeting the Ouachita River

Finally, the Boeuf River joins the larger Ouachita River. This meeting point is near a town called Enterprise in Louisiana. The Ouachita River then continues its own journey.

River Facts

The Boeuf River starts at an elevation of about 110 ft (34 m) above sea level. When it meets the Ouachita River, it is much lower, at about 33 ft (10 m). This drop in height helps the water flow along its path.
