Bok van Blerk (born Louis Andreas Pepler; 30 March 1978) is a popular South African singer and songwriter. He sings in Afrikaans, a language spoken in South Africa. He became very well known in 2006 for his song "De la Rey."
When "De la Rey" was released, some people had different opinions about it. However, the South African Department of Arts and Culture looked into the discussions. They officially said that they saw "no problem" with the song and wished Bok van Blerk well.
Early Life and Music Journey
Bok van Blerk grew up in Pretoria, South Africa. He went to school at Hoërskool die Wilgers. After finishing his studies, he spent some time working in other countries.
In March 2006, Bok van Blerk and a group called the Mossies released an album. It was called Jy praat nog steeds my taal, which means "You still speak my language." Later that year, in October 2006, the same album was released again. This time, it was called De La Rey and only had Bok van Blerk's name on it. He explained that "and the Mossies" was removed because the other singer, Tanya van Graan, was very busy with her modeling career.
When Bok van Blerk performs, he has a band with him. Jaco Mans often plays the lead guitar, and sometimes Manie van Niekerk joins too. Francois Coetzee plays the bass guitar, and Nathan Smit is on the drums.
