Their plan was to take control of the country and set up a "dictatorship of the proletariat". This meant a government where the working class would rule.

Bolshevism began in the Russian Empire at the start of the 20th century. It was closely linked to Vladimir Lenin. He was the leader of the Bolshevik faction. This group was a part of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party. Lenin believed that only a small, disciplined group of revolutionaries could lead the workers to power.

The Bolsheviks Take Power

In October 1917, the Bolsheviks decided to act. They organized an armed rebellion against the Russian Provisional Government. This temporary government had been formed by other political parties after the old Russian Empire fell. The Bolsheviks succeeded in taking control. This event is known as the Russian Revolution.

Impact and Legacy

The actions of the Bolsheviks had a huge impact. They changed Russia's history forever. Their ideas also influenced many other countries around the world. Today, people have very different opinions about whether these changes were good or bad. The term "Bolshevism" is still used by some political groups who follow similar ideas, like Marxist-Leninists and Trotskyists.
