Bombardino is a popular warm drink from Italy. People often enjoy it in winter, especially at ski resorts. It's made by mixing a creamy egg liqueur, like Advocaat or eggnog, with Brandy.
What is Bombardino?
Bombardino is a special Italian drink. It's usually served hot, which makes it perfect for cold winter days. Imagine being on a snowy mountain, and then warming up with a tasty Bombardino!
How is it Made?
The basic Bombardino recipe uses two main parts:
- A creamy egg liqueur, often called Advocaat or eggnog.
- Brandy, which is a type of strong drink.
Sometimes, people use a specific Italian egg liqueur called Vov or Zabov. They mix about three-quarters of this hot egg liqueur with one-quarter of rum or brandy.
A Little History
The "Vov" egg liqueur is an important part of Bombardino. It was created in 1845 in Padua, Italy. A pastry chef named Gian Battista Pezziol invented it. He wanted to use up the extra egg yolks left over from making nougats. So, he mixed them with Marsala wine and alcohol to create this unique liqueur.
Different Flavors
Bombardino is usually served hot. You can also ask for whipped cream on top! There are a few fun variations of Bombardino:
- Calimero: This version adds coffee. It's made with one part Brandy, one part Vov, and one part espresso coffee.
- Pirata: This one includes rum.
- Scozzese: This variation uses whisky.
Why the Name?
The name "Bombardino" is quite interesting! It supposedly comes from one of the first people who tried the drink. They noticed how warm and strong it was and said (in Italian), "It's like a little bomb!" This name stuck because of its warming effect.
