Bonanza is a small community in eastern Uintah County, Utah, United States. It's called a "census-designated place" because it's a special area defined for counting people, even though it's not an official town. The name "Bonanza" means a very rich discovery, which makes sense because of the valuable minerals found here!
Near Bonanza, there's a power plant that uses coal to make electricity. This area, part of the Colorado Plateau, also has places where people drill for oil from rocks like oil shale. Even though it's a place with important resources, the 2020 Census showed that Bonanza had a population of 0 people.
History of Bonanza
Bonanza was started in 1888. The main reason people settled here was because they found a lot of Gilsonite. Gilsonite is a natural, shiny black substance similar to asphalt. It's used in many products, like inks and special coatings.

Bonanza is located about 212 miles (341 kilometers) southeast of Salt Lake City, Utah's capital. You can find it along State Route 45.
