Bonaventura Duda (born January 14, 1924, died August 3, 2017) was a very important Croatian Franciscan monk. He was also a theologian, which means he studied religious faith and God. He was also a biblical scholar, someone who deeply studies the Bible.
He was a respected member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, a group of top experts in Croatia. Bonaventura Duda was famous for translating the Bible into Croatian. He also helped share the ideas of the Second Vatican Council. This was a big meeting of Catholic leaders that updated the Church for modern times.
Life and Work
Bonaventura Duda taught at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Zagreb. From 1964 to 1969, he was a professor. He also led the department that studied the New Testament part of the Bible.
He was chosen several times to be a vice dean. From 1982 to 1986, he was the dean of the Faculty. This means he was in charge of the whole school. He stopped working on October 1, 1993. Later, on November 9, 2001, he was named a Professor Emeritus. This is a special title for retired professors who are still highly respected.
