Bone is a small, quiet place in Bonneville County, Idaho, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's not officially a town with its own local government.
Bone is located close to the border of Bingham County. It sits near Willow Creek. This spot is about 17 miles (27 kilometers) southeast of a bigger city called Idaho Falls.
Back in 2006, only two people lived in Bone all year round. There was also just one business, the Bone Store. However, more people would come to Bone during the ranching season. The original Bone Store closed in 2017. But don't worry, it reopened in 2020 with new owners and a new name!
History of Bone, Idaho
Bone was started by a person named Orion Yost Bone. He opened the very first Bone Store in the early 1900s. This store was a central part of the community.
Sadly, the first store building burned down in 1945. But the community didn't give up! A long-time resident and rancher named Max Rockwood rebuilt the store. He moved it about 150 yards (137 meters) north of its original spot.
For a long time, Bone was quite isolated. It was the very last community in Idaho to get telephone service. Telephones finally arrived in Bone in 1982. Imagine living without a phone until then!
