What Were Bonkers Candies?

The Famous Bonkers Commercials
Bonkers candy is probably best remembered for its funny TV commercials. In these ads, serious-looking people would take a bite of a Bonkers candy. Suddenly, a giant piece of fruit, like a huge bunch of grapes, would fall from above! It would gently knock them over, making them burst into loud, happy laughter.
The catchy phrase in these commercials was: "Bonkers! Bonks you out!" Many ads also featured an older woman from the South. She would say in a calm voice, "Some folks think Bonkers is gum." Then, a giant fruit would fall on someone, making them laugh. She would then say, "They know it's candy now." These commercials were usually full of energy and excitement.
Why Did Bonkers Disappear?
After the TV commercials stopped playing, Bonkers candy became less popular. It became harder to find and eventually, the company stopped making it. There was a lot of competition from other candies and snacks. Also, people started paying more attention to healthy food choices. These things might have made Bonkers less popular over time.
The Return of Bonkers?
In February 2012, a company called Leaf Brands bought the rights to Bonkers. They announced plans to bring this classic candy back to stores by the end of 2015.
In 2017, Leaf Brands shared exciting news. They said they planned to bring back the original Bonkers candy. They even hoped to reintroduce some of the first flavors. In November 2016, the Bonkers Fruit Candy social media pages posted an update. They said, "We made more samples of Bonkers Fruit Chews on the line last week and we think they look pretty good! Getting closer but no date yet.." They even shared pictures! However, there haven't been any new updates about Bonkers Fruit Candy since then.
