Bonneauville's History
Before 1961, Bonneauville was known by a different name: "Bonnaughtown." Sometimes it was also spelled "Bonnoughtown." This older name shows the town's German roots. Many German immigrants settled in this area a long time ago.
The town's original name, Bonnaughtown, even appeared in the journals of soldiers. These soldiers passed through the town during the Gettysburg Campaign of the American Civil War. This was a very important time in American history. In 1961, the town officially changed its name to Bonneauville when it became a borough.
