The Story of Boomer

Boomer got its name from its first postmaster, Ed "Boomer" Matheson. A postmaster is the person in charge of a local post office. Before that, the area was called Warrior Creek. This name came from a stream that flows through the community.

A famous person from Boomer was James Larkin Pearson. He was a poet and also ran a newspaper. From 1953 to 1981, he was the official poet for North Carolina, called the North Carolina Poet Laureate.

Where Boomer Is Located

Boomer is found in the western part of North Carolina. It sits at an elevation of 1,243 feet above sea level. This community is in the foothills of the Brushy Mountains. These mountains are a smaller part of the larger Blue Ridge Mountains to the west.
