The Boone County Distillery Superintendent's House and Guest House is a special historic home in Petersburg, Kentucky. It was officially recognized and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. This means it's an important building worth protecting because of its history.

A Glimpse into History

This unique building was built in 1885. It was designed to have four separate living spaces, like apartments. Two of these were on the first floor, and two were on the second floor.

What Makes This House Special?

The two apartments on the first floor had their own kitchens. These kitchens had a special type of roof called a "shed roof." The apartments on the second floor did not have these kitchens. This house is a rare example of a building from the 1800s that was designed for multiple families to live in. Not many buildings like it are still standing in Boone County today.

The Story of the Distillery

The house is connected to the Boone County Distillery. This distillery was a very important business in the area for many years. It operated between the American Civil War and 1916. In 1883, the distillery had about 25 buildings. Most of these buildings are no longer there.

The Boone County Distillery was a big part of the local economy. It provided jobs and helped the community grow. It was one of only two known distilleries in Boone County. The other one was in a town called Hamilton, but none of its buildings remain today. This makes the Superintendent's House even more important, as it's one of the few remaining links to that historical industry.
