Life and Work

Dr. Kolker started learning Esperanto in 1957. Since then, he has written many articles about how languages work together. He has also written reviews of books and created three very popular Esperanto textbooks. These books help students learn the language at different levels.

One of his most famous books is eo:Vojaĝo en Esperanto-lando, which means Travels in Esperanto-Land. This book is special because it's both a course to help you become good at Esperanto and a fun guide to understanding the culture around the language. Because of this book, many people see him as a guide to "Esperanto-Land."

Boris Kolker is a member of the Akademio de Esperanto, which is a group of experts who help keep the Esperanto language consistent and correct. He is also an honorary member of the World Esperanto Association (Universala Esperanto Asocio), which is the main global organization for Esperanto speakers. He also helps edit Monato, a monthly magazine.

For 20 years, he led a huge online course in Russia, teaching Esperanto to about 900 students. He also taught Esperanto at American universities in San Francisco and Hartford.

Today, he still runs an international online course for learning Esperanto. He also helps lead a group that sets tests for Esperanto teachers around the world. He has been a leader in the main global Esperanto group and helped start Esperanto organizations in the Soviet Union and Russia. He has given many talks at big international Esperanto meetings. In 2000, he even helped organize the main topic for one of these meetings in Tel-Aviv.
