The Borough Hall of the Borough of Waynesboro is a special historic building in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. It's located in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. This building was first built in 1881.
When it was new, the town council built it to be a public theater and a fire station. They called it the Academy of Music. The very first talk given there was called "The Rise and Fall of the Moustache." A speaker named Robert Burdette gave this talk many times across the country. In 1906, the building also showed the first motion picture ever seen in Waynesboro!

What Does a Borough Hall Do?

The Building's Cool Style
The Waynesboro Borough Hall is a three-story building made of brick. It has a unique look that mixes two old architectural styles:
- Italianate style: This style often includes wide eaves and tall, narrow windows.
- Second Empire style: This style is known for its special roof.
A Closer Look at the Roof
The building has a type of roof called a mansard roof. This roof has four sides, and each side slopes down in two parts. The lower part is steeper than the upper part.
You can also see a central part of the building that rises above the roofline. This is called a central pavilion. The roof also has decorative metal work called cast-iron roof cresting. It looks like a fancy fence along the top. Even the windows have cool "eyebrow-like" shapes above them!
How the Building Has Been Used
When the Borough Hall was first built, it was used for many things. It was a theater, a public market, and even a library. Imagine all those different activities happening in one place!
Since 1976, the building has been used only for borough offices. This means it's now completely dedicated to the local government's work.
A Historic Landmark
Because of its history and unique architecture, the Borough Hall of the Borough of Waynesboro was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. This is a list of places in the United States that are important to history. Being on this list helps protect the building for future generations.
