History of Bosque Farms
The area now known as Bosque Farms has a long history. It was first part of a Spanish land grant from 1716. Back then, it was called Bosque del Pino, which means "Forest Pines." Sometimes it was also known as Los Pinos.
Over many years, the land was owned by different people. During the Great Depression, a difficult time for the economy, it was bought by a special group. This group then sold it to the U.S. government's Resettlement Administration in 1935.
The government renamed the land Bosque Farms. They wanted to help families who had lost their farms during the Dust Bowl. These families were called "Dust Bowl refugees." They tried to farm the land, but the soil wasn't good for traditional crops. So, the families who stayed started dairy farming. This became the main type of farming in the community until the 1960s.
Bosque Farms officially became a village in 1974. Today, new homes and businesses are the main ways the village makes money.
