A Look Back: History of the Church
The Boston Spa Methodist Church was built a long time ago, starting in 1846. A person named Atkinson from York designed it. The very first stone was put in place in November 1846. The church was officially opened in October 1847. It cost £1000 to build, which was a lot of money back then! The church finished paying off this debt by 1863. An important person named George Macdonald was the first preacher here. He was the grandfather of famous people like Stanley Baldwin and Rudyard Kipling.
Church Design: Architecture
Outside the Church
The church is made from a type of stone called magnesian limestone. It has a sloped roof covered with Welsh slate tiles. The building looks like it's built in an Italian style. It has two main levels, with a pointed roof section at the front. There are steps leading up to the entrance. A small addition was built onto the side of the church in 1986.
Inside the Church
Inside, you can see the original wooden pews, which are like long benches. There is also a special pulpit, where the preacher stands. At the back of the church, there is a rounded space for the organ. This space holds a wooden organ made by Harrison and Harrison.
