History of the Church
This church was built a long time ago, in 1846. A person named Atkinson from York designed it. The first stone for the church was put in place in November 1846. The church was officially opened in October 1847.
It cost about £1000 to build the church. This was a lot of money back then! People worked hard to pay off this building cost by 1863. The very first preacher at the church was George Macdonald. He was famous for being the grandfather of two well-known people: Stanley Baldwin and Rudyard Kipling.
About the Church Building
Outside the Church
The Boston Spa Methodist Church is made from a type of stone called magnesian limestone. Its roof is made of Welsh slate and slopes downwards. The building looks like it was built in an Italian style.
The front of the church has two floors. There are steps leading up to the entrance. A small addition was built onto the church in 1986.
Inside the Church
Inside, the church has old-fashioned wooden pews. These are like long benches where people sit. There is also a special pulpit, which is a raised stand where the preacher speaks.
At the back of the church, there is a rounded space for an organ. This space holds a wooden organ made by a company called Harrison and Harrison.
