The Bothin Convalescent Hospital was a special place built in 1910. It was designed to help women and children get better after they had been sick or had surgery. Henry Bothin built this hospital on a large piece of land he bought in 1903. This land was near Fairfax, California, and close to the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. Later, another hospital for people with a serious lung illness was also built on the same property. A train station called Bothin even served these hospitals.

When Henry Bothin passed away in 1923, he left money to a special foundation. This foundation helped support the hospitals and other helpful organizations. The first hospital, for recovery, closed in 1940. The hospital for lung illness continued to operate until the 1950s.

From Hospital to Camp: A New Purpose

In 1948, the Girl Scouts in Marin County started using part of the property. They used it for fun summer activities. More and more Girl Scouts came each year. By 1959, the entire property was leased to the Girl Scouts.

Camp Bothin: A Place for Adventure

Today, this special place is known as Camp Bothin. Its official name is the Henry E. Bothin Youth Camp. It is a popular spot for Girl Scouts to learn, explore, and have adventures.

Stories from the Past: Camp Bothin's History

Because the camp used to be a hospital, some people have shared stories about strange things happening there. These stories, often called "ghost sightings," are mostly linked to its past as a place where people recovered from serious illnesses.
