Botna is a small place in Shelby County, Iowa, in the United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it's not an official city or town with its own local government. Botna is located close to the West Nishnabotna River.

History of Botna

Botna was first planned out on a map in 1884. When a community is "platted," it means its streets and lots are officially laid out.

The community was originally called Rochdale. This name came from a town in England that had the same name. Later, the name was changed to Botna. This new name is a shorter version of the nearby West Nishnabotna River.

Over the years, Botna's population has changed. In 1902, about 37 people lived there. By 1925, the population had grown to 75 people. However, by 1940, the number of residents had decreased to 50.
