What is the Boulder City Historic District?

Building a New Town
Boulder City was created to support the construction of Hoover Dam. This huge dam was built between 1931 and 1935. Thousands of workers were needed for the project. Boulder City was designed to be a home for these workers and their families.
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation planned and built the town. They worked with a group of construction companies called the Six Companies. Together, they made sure the town had everything the workers needed. This included homes, stores, and places to relax.

The chief planner for Boulder City was Saco Rienk DeBoer. He made sure the town was well-organized. The design helped create a strong community for the dam workers. It was a carefully thought-out town, built from scratch.
