Boulder Reservoir is a cool place located in the northern part of Boulder, Colorado. It's like a giant bathtub that holds water for two important groups. These are the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District (also known as Northern Water) and the City of Boulder. This reservoir is also the main attraction of the Boulder Reservoir Regional Park. The City of Boulder's Parks and Recreation Department takes care of the park.

Most of the water in Boulder Reservoir comes from Colorado's Western Slope. It travels a long way through the Alva B. Adams Tunnel and the Boulder Feeder Canal. These are both parts of a big system called the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. Some of this stored water helps supply drinking water for Boulder. Other water is used by farmers in Boulder and Weld counties to grow crops.

Fun at Boulder Reservoir Regional Park

Boulder Reservoir is a large body of water, covering about 700 acres. That's like 700 football fields! The City of Boulder's Parks and Recreation Department says there are lots of fun things to do here. You can go boating, swimming, or just relax and sunbathe. Many people enjoy water skiing, fishing, and having picnics. It's also a great spot for walking, running, cycling, and watching wildlife.

Fishing at the Reservoir

The reservoir is very popular with people who love to fish. Many anglers try to catch walleye, smallmouth bass, and catfish here. In recent years, the State of Colorado has added more fish to the reservoir. They have stocked it with black crappie, saugeye, and rainbow trout. When the lake freezes over in winter, you can even go ice fishing!

History of the Reservoir

Boulder Reservoir was finished in 1955. It has been an important part of the community ever since. It provides water for people and farms, and it offers a wonderful place for outdoor activities.
