Bourbon, Boone County, Missouri facts for kids
Bourbon is a small, unincorporated community located in the northern part of Boone County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. It's found on Benson Road, just east of U.S. Route 63 and about a mile west of the town of Sturgeon.
History of Bourbon
The community of Bourbon was officially established in 1849. It was given its name because many of the first people who settled there came from Bourbon County, Kentucky. So, they named their new home after their old one! For a while, it was also known by a slightly different name, Bourbonton. A post office, which helps send and receive mail, was set up in Bourbonton in 1849. However, it only stayed open for a few years, closing down in 1857.
