Bouverie Francis Primrose (1813–1898) was an important person in Britain who owned land and worked for the government. He was known for his work in different public offices.

About His Life

Bouverie Francis Primrose was born on September 19, 1813, near Edinburgh, Scotland. He was the second son of Archibald Primrose, 4th Earl of Rosebery. In 1817, his family moved to a new home called Dalmeny House.

In 1839, he got a job as the Receiver General for the Post Office in Scotland. This meant he was in charge of collecting money for the Post Office. He also worked for many years as the secretary of the Joint Board of Manufacture and Fisheries. This board helped with industries and fishing in Scotland.

He was also involved in the military, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Queen's City of Edinburgh Rifle Volunteer Brigade. This was a volunteer army group.

In 1849, he was chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. This is a group of smart people who study science and other subjects. Sir John Murray, Lord Murray suggested him for this honor.

He stopped working in 1882 and passed away on March 20, 1898.

His Family

In 1838, Bouverie Francis Primrose married Frederica Sophia Anson (1814-1867). She was the daughter of Thomas Anson, 1st Viscount Anson.

They had eight children together. Some of their notable children included:

Bouverie Francis Primrose was also the uncle of Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery. His nephew later became the British Prime Minister from 1894 to 1895.

A portrait of Bouverie Francis Primrose was painted around 1870 by an artist named Robert Herdman. This painting is kept at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. However, it is not often shown to the public.
