Archibald John Primrose, 4th Earl of Rosebery (born 14 October 1783 – died 4 March 1868), was an important British politician. He was known as Viscount Primrose until 1814, when he inherited his father's title.
Archibald was the oldest son of Neil Primrose, the 3rd Earl of Rosebery. His mother was Mary Vincent. He went to Pembroke College, Cambridge, a famous university, and finished his studies in 1804.
He started his political career as a Member of Parliament (MP). This means he was elected to represent people in the British government. He was an MP for Helston from 1805 to 1806, and then for Cashel from 1806 to 1807.
Important Titles and Honors
In 1814, Archibald inherited the title of Earl of Rosebery from his father. This made him the 4th Earl. Later, in 1828, he was given another special title: Baron Rosebery. These titles were part of the Peerage of the United Kingdom, which is a system of noble ranks.
He also received several important honors:
- In 1831, he became a Privy Counsellor. This is a group of advisors to the British monarch.
- In 1840, he was made a Knight of the Thistle. This is a very old and important award in Scotland.
- He was also a Fellow of the Royal Society. This means he was recognized for his contributions to science and knowledge.
Archibald John Primrose was the grandfather of Archibald Primrose, 5th Earl of Rosebery. His grandson later became the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1894 to 1895.

Lord Rosebery was married twice. His first marriage was to Harriett Bouverie in 1808. They had four children together:
