Bow and Poplar was a special area in London that used to elect one person to represent its people in the UK Parliament. This elected person is called a Member of Parliament, or MP for short. MPs work in the House of Commons, which is a big meeting place where laws are made for the whole United Kingdom.
This area, called a parliamentary constituency, was created for the general election in 1983. It stopped being a separate constituency for the general election in 1997.
