History of Boyce, Louisiana

The town of Boyce was first known as Cotile Landing. Its name changed to Boyce in 1880. This happened when the Texas and Pacific Railroad decided to make Boyce its main stop.

The town was named after Judge Henry Boyce. He owned the land where the town was built. Judge Boyce and his son, Henry Archinard Boyce, were of Irish descent. They gave many streets in the town Irish names. They also named their cotton farm, which was next to the town, "Ulster."

Even though some people didn't agree, the post office was officially named Boyce in 1883. This was because the train station already used that name. The town of Boyce was officially organized with its own council on May 7, 1887.
